Susan G. Komen® Michigan Goes Mobile for the 18th Annual Race for the Cure in Grand Rapids
WEST MICHIGAN – Susan G. Komen® Michigan will host their annual West Michigan Race for the Cure® in downtown Grand Rapids at Ah-Nab-Awen Park at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19th. Race activities and entertainment will span the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum grounds, Ah-Nab-Awen Park and the Gillette Bridge with a starting line on Scribner Ave. The race will consist of a 5K run/walk and a one-mile community walk with funds raised benefiting local breast cancer awareness, education, and screening programs. This year, Oakland County-based Mousetrap Mobile has developed a brand new Mobile App to make the race mobile interactive.
Some of the new App features include year-round information on all events, special Race for the Cure® event programs, donation and volunteering information, and, more importantly, a Resource Library on breast cancer and awareness. This FREE App can be found in the Android Marketplace and the Apple App Store by searching “Susan G. Komen Michigan” or by texting “KomenMI” to 57780.
This year’s Race for the Cure App will include local maps of the area, schedules, public safety information, race registration, donations, and fun interactive games with our valued sponsors and local merchants along the race route. Mousetrap Mobile has also partnered with Signal360 to provide Proximity Messaging and the use of beacons to deliver location information around the event area and important communication alerts, such as real-time parking alerts. In addition to a new App, Mousetrap Mobile will be providing Pink Selfie Sticks to all the team captains to further extend the fun participant experience and social media reach for this Race for the Cure.
“We are excited to contribute to this great cause and event,” said Gregory Nasto, CEO of Mousetrap Mobile. “Almost every person carries a mobile device and the average person looks at their mobile device every 6 minutes. We wanted to create an App that has a year-round purpose with the resources needed to help and educate women on breast cancer and to create a unique interactive mobile experience for the racers and guests while creating engagement with our valued sponsors and local businesses supporting the Cure.”
“We are very pleased to be supporting Mousetrap Mobile and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure with our Proximity Messaging and beacon technology for this event, we are very honored to be part of this great cause.” says Alex Bell, CEO and Founder of Signal360.
Komen Michigan Executive Director Jennifer Jurgens added, “We are excited to launch a new way for community members to connect Komen Michigan with Race for the Cure and support the great year-round work Komen is doing right here in Michigan to help local women access breast care.”
