Komen Michigan Welcomes New Board President
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – October 27, 2015 – Susan G. Komen® Michigan is happy to announce the election of a new Board President, Charles “Chuck” Christmas. As the former treasurer of Komen Michigan’s Board of Directors and current CFO of Mercantile Bank of Michigan, Christmas brings nearly 30 years of diverse financial experience to the Affiliate’s leadership team.
In his new role as the board president, Chuck is looking forward to working closely with Komen Michigan Executive Director, Jennifer Jurgens, as well as the rest of the board to create a strategy to guide the Affiliate’s operations as they work to save lives in Michigan.
“The Komen Mission is incredibly important to me,” said Christmas. “I have had many friends and co-workers battle this horrible disease, with some being taken from us at a very young age. Treatments are vital, and the progress in medicine and techniques that have been made is breathtaking, but educating and providing basic breast health is significantly important too and I feel grateful for the opportunity serve and support the Affiliate in all of its roles.”
As the Affiliate’s staff and board members welcome in the new President, the also say goodbye to former board president and breast cancer survivor, Carol Perschbacher. After three years as the Board of Director’s leader, Carol decided that it was time to pass on the torch.
“I’ve come to a point in my life where I’m ready to spend more time with my family,” said Perschbacher. “In the past three years in this role, I’ve witnessed a rebirth of Komen in Michigan through the addition of new staff, new events and most recently, our merger with the other Affiliates in the state. I believe I took this organization to a point and that Chuck is the right person to bring it to the next level. I will continue to support Komen Michigan through Race and other events and look forward to seeing what they’ll do next.”
