2015 Annual Report
Dear friends of Komen Michigan,
I’m excited to share a summary of our fiscal year 2015, in which we funded over $720,000 in breast health outreach, education, screening and diagnostic services not covered by any insurance carrier, non-profit or government program in Michigan. Thanks to your support we’re delivering on our promise to end breast cancer forever:
· Through our own outreach, education and programs,
· By granting money to health organizations that are addressing specific disparities in our state,
· And by collaborating with other non-profits to find and fill gaps.
I’m so grateful and yet so frustrated… We have the health systems and coverage right now to save many lives, yet 30% of breast cancer diagnosis in our state are still considered “late stage”. Because of this, over 1,400 women will be killed by breast cancer in Michigan this year, with 420 of them living in the 20 counties we cover. This is not acceptable.
Read on to find out how you can get involved and save lives. From our global research efforts to our local events that need volunteers and support, you can make a difference. Because everyone, regardless of where they live, the color of their skin or their income deserves the same chance I had to find breast cancer early and beat it.
With gratitude and with hope for a future without breast cancer,
Executive Director, Breast Cancer Survivor
