The conclusion of this campaign brings the total amount raised for Susan G. Komen Michigan to over $36,000.

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan, January 12, 2016 — Metro Elevator Co. Inc. announced today the completion of their third “Ride the Pink Elevator” campaign in Michigan.  The installation is located downtown in the heart of Grand Rapids and launched in September at the corner of Michigan and Monroe, the site of the construction project for “The Rowe,” a historic building soon to be filled with brand new apartments and condominiums. Through the generous donations of the job site crews, companies and community the campaign raised just under $13,000 for Susan G. Komen Michigan.  Donors included CWD Real Estate Investment, Triangle Associates, Inc., JDH Engineering, Inc., Premier Caulking Inc., Architectural Metals, Van Dellen Steel, Inc., Wolverine Worldwide and Feyen Zylstra, among others.

Metro Elevator hosted a campaign kickoff at the site location in October and donations were accepted through Mid-December.  Triangle Associates, Inc. is the lead construction management firm on the project, and project owner, CWD Real Estate Investment, agreed to allow the installation of the bright pink elevator and pink-ribbon counter-weight on the western exterior of the building in place of a standard construction hoist.

Metro Elevator specializes in rack and pinion construction hoist sales and leasing, and paints select elevators in the signature Komen pink to raise awareness of breast cancer.  They then partner with clients, top builders, construction managers and general contractors on select projects in major cities throughout the U.S. and are working with Komen leaders in Michigan to turn this into a well-received national program.

“Through the three campaigns in Ann Arbor, Mount Pleasant, and now Grand Rapids, Metro Elevator has raised over $36,000 for Komen Michigan,” said Roger Brummett, Vice President of Metro Elevator.  “The Ride the Pink Elevator Campaign is unique as it focuses on reaching an audience that doesn’t always relate to messaging traditionally geared toward women.”

Michigan’s First Lady, Sue Snyder, will be onsite on January 12, 2016 to accept the check on behalf of Komen Michigan. As a 12-year breast cancer survivor, Mrs. Snyder is a strong supporter of Komen Michigan and was onsite for the Ann Arbor pink elevator campaign launch in January of 2015.

“As a 12-year breast cancer survivor myself, it’s always an honor to work alongside Susan G. Komen and others who are passionate about connecting woman with necessary and often life-saving services,” said Michigan First Lady Sue Snyder. “I’m proud that Michigan was chosen as the site for the first Pink Elevator in this national initiative and it’s exciting to see the movement grow with this successful project right here in Grand Rapids.”

“Breast cancer is something that has touched my life,” said Jim Conner, Vice President of Business Development for Triangle Associates.  “I don’t think enough men take action when it comes to breast cancer.  We need to be as aware as the women in our lives.  The Pink Elevator is a great way to increase awareness within our mostly male-dominated industry and give men a unique way to get involved and directly make an impact here in West Michigan.”

Metro Elevator’s initiative has converted hoist elevators into brilliant, vibrant pink fundraising ambassadors for a cause that affects approximately 12 percent of women annually. It is estimated that over 7,000 women and 70 men in Michigan will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.
