Komen Mid-Michigan Receives Generous Donation from Six Locally-Owned Applebee’s Restaurants

TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants’ donation comes from February’s Dine to Donate fundraiser

LANSING, MI Komen Mid-Michigan was presented with a check for nearly $3,000 raised by six greater Lansing Applebee’s locations during a Dine to Donate Fundraiser event co-sponsored by Capital Area Women’s Lifestyle magazine (CAWLM).

The six participating Applebee’s locations are under the ownership of TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants (TSFR), a Livonia-based, family-owned company.  Because of their commitment to giving back in their local communities, CAWLM contacted TSFR and led the initiative to partner with Komen Mid-Michigan. During the Dine to Donate event that took place on Feb. 16, 2017, 20 percent of the restaurants’ food sales between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m.were earmarked for donation by TSFR directly to Komen Mid-Michigan. The fundraiser sparked a friendly competition between the six locations to see who could raise the most money. Together they successfully raised $2,969.48.

About 1.3 million people are diagnosed annually with breast cancer. Komen Mid-Michigan is committed to being a local resource for those who need screenings, diagnostics and support services. Fundraisers like Dine to Donate allow Komen Mid-Michigan to remain a valuable voice for men and women for the past 20 years.

“TSFR is happy to contribute to the continuation of life-saving education, research and diagnostics that Komen Mid-Michigan provides to the community,” said Jennifer Sleeper, marketing manager for TSFR Applebee’s. “It’s important to us to support our local communities where we do business. It takes all of us working together to change our world, one person, one community at a time.”

TSFR presented the check on Wednesday, March 22 at their East Lansing Applebee’s location on Coolidge Road. Komen Mid-Michigan plans to use the money to fund their local programs, as well as national research.

“Working with the TSFR Applebee’s management and team members was such an enjoyable and valuable experience for our organization. We are so thankful for both their efforts and the donation that will help so many local men and women,” said Alicia Brink, community events coordinator at Komen Mid-Michigan
